🔍 General Description & Technologies
Juvéderm® is the world's leading brand of facial fillers. The Allergan laboratory has developed two distinct cross-linking technologies (the process that binds hyaluronic acid molecules together) to meet specific needs:
1. VYCROSS® Technology (Premium Range)
This patented technology uses a unique combination of low and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA). It allows for more effective cross-linking, creating a more homogeneous gel that is softer to inject, with superior tissue integration and increased resistance to free radicals (extended duration).
Products: Voluma, Volift, Volbella, Volux, Volite, Skinvive.
2. HYLACROSS® Technology (Classic Range)
This technology creates a gel with a very smooth and malleable structure, ideal for classic filling and immediate volume enhancement. It primarily uses high molecular weight HA.
Products : Ultra 3, Ultra 4, Ultra smile.
🌍 Equivalency Chart & References (Europe vs USA)
It is crucial to note that although the formulas are very similar, the trade names differ for regulatory reasons (FDA in the USA vs CE marking in Europe). The designation "XC" in the USA systematically indicates the presence of Lidocaine (anesthetic), which is now the standard ("with Lidocaine") for most European products.
3. Do all Juvéderm® products contain an anesthetic?
The vast majority of the current range contains lidocaine (0.3%) incorporated directly into the gel. This is indicated by the mention "with Lidocaine" in Europe or "XC" in the United States.
4. Are there any absolute contraindications?
Yes. The products should not be used in patients with a history of anaphylaxis or multiple severe allergies, nor in those allergic to Gram-positive bacterial proteins or lidocaine. They are also contraindicated in cases of active infection (acne, herpes) at the injection site.
5. Is Juvéderm VOLUX different from VOLUMA?
Yes. Although both are volumizers (Vycross), VOLUX has been specifically formulated with superior elasticity and cohesion compared to Voluma. It is officially indicated by Allergan for restoring and creating volume in the chin and jawline, where strong structural projection is required to mimic bone.
